AI is changing the world faster than we can control and in ways we cannot yet fathom. Since his son accused him of being an AI luddite, Study Group Leader Jerry Gallucci has spent the past several months playing with AI. He has used Claude to write a science fiction novella (illustrations by ChatGPT) and chatted with Claude about what it is and what it’s not. He has also used AI to plot travel, answer some medical questions and recently began using Suno to make music. This Study Group will allow Jerry to present his experiences, what he has learned about AI (and its discontents) and to open a general discussion about AI and the issues it raises. (The latter in fact suggests that advances in AI have already put us beyond the event horizon, where we do not know where it is taking us.)

Among other things, Jerry Gallucci (PhD, University of Pittsburgh) served in the National Security Council, as Director for e-Diplomacy in the US State Department, and taught at the West Virginia Wesleyan College, the University of Arkansas in Little Rock, and Drake University and a graduate course on "Qualitative Methodology" for the GW School of Media & Public Affairs.
