Types of Classes

Classes at OLLI are called “study groups,” and instructors, “study group leaders.” This is because what makes OLLI at AU unique is that the basic concept of peer learning and teaching. Members come from varied backgrounds, and what they have in common is genuine interest in continuing their learning experiences and intellectual stimulation in an organization of like-minded people. Members participate fully in study groups, either by leading them or attending them.

Semesters

OLLI at AU has two regular academic semesters: Spring, which begins in late February, and Fall, which begins in September. Study groups meet for 90 minutes each class session and run between 7-10 weeks in length. The three time slots each day are 9:45-11:15 AM, 11:45 AM-1:15 PM, and 1:45-3:15 PM. The membership fee for each semester is $300 and allows members to take from one to three study groups. A full year can be paid for in the fall, for $550.

Minis

Minis are study groups held once-a-week for four weeks during the month of June. Each day’s session in the four weeks is 1-1/2 hours long. The membership fee for the June Minis is $100 and allows members to take from one to three study groups during that session.

Shorts

February and July Shorts meet 2-5 times over the course of one week. Each day’s session is 1-1/2 hours long. The membership fee for each of the Shorts weeks is $100 and allows members to take from one to three courses during that week.
