Welcome to the George Washington Masonic National Memorial, rising 333 feet above Alexandria on Shuter’s Hill! Built starting in 1922, this striking granite landmark was funded entirely by citizens across the country and even laid with the same ceremonial trowel Washington used at the U.S. Capitol in 1793—a real connection to history you can almost feel.

Our private guided tour begins in the grand Memorial Hall, where eight towering granite columns surround a 17-foot bronze statue of Washington. Here, we’ll meet Washington not just as a general or president, but as a man of discipline, humility, and civic virtue—the qualities that helped shape the new nation.

Next, we’ll step into the Replica Lodge Room, designed in 18th-century style. Washington once led his Alexandria lodge here, and the artifacts on display—from ceremonial tools to historic furnishings—bring the rituals of his time vividly to life.

In the museum galleries, we trace his journey from young surveyor to military commander to enduring national symbol. You’ll also see how the Memorial’s design, inspired by the ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria, was meant as a beacon of guidance and stability for the capital region.

Finally, we’ll make our way to the Observation Deck. From here, Old Town Alexandria unfolds below, the Potomac glimmers in the distance, and the Washington, D.C. skyline stretches along the horizon. It’s a breathtaking view—and a perfect reminder of the enduring legacy of George Washington.

Tour members are welcome to continue exploring the various exhibits when our tour concludes.
