953: *CANCELLED* A Decorative Arts Sampler

July 10-12
11:45 AM - 1:15 PM
In-Person

Have you ever wondered why (or if) there's a difference between "fine" and "decorative" art? Do you like to look at objects and explore their history? Join a decorative arts lover and collector for a "sampler" exploration of three very diverse, object-based topics:

Session 1: 19th Century Revolving bookcases;
Session 2: Chinese Export Silver; and
Session 3: American costume jewelry in the first half of the 20th century.

Through powerpoint slides and examination of select pieces, we will explore not only the beauty and craft of these objects, but what they reveal about world trade, inter-cultural perceptions, the 19th-century expansion of reading culture to the middle class, and the evolving role of women consumers in the 20th century.

THIS IN-PERSON COURSE IS BEING RECORDED FOR JULY SHORTS REGISTRANTS.

Class Type: Lecture and Discussion
