Brigadier General Jonatan Shimshoni will discuss the difficult challenges that Israel faces given the conflict in Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, and Iran. He will offer a way forward that has the potential to lead to a peaceful, secure, and democratic Israel integrated into the Middle East.

Dr. (Brigadier General, Ret.) Jonatan (Yoni) Shimshoni served for 25 years in the IDF, in both field command and staff positions, culminating his service as Director of Planning for the General Staff. Yoni is a member of the leadership team of Commanders for Israel's Security. He holds a PhD in Public Policy from the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs. He has published with Cornell University Press on conventional deterrence and articles in leading defense policy journals, and in the leading Israeli daily (Haaretz). Yoni served on several committees of the Israeli National Security Council and in the IDF reserves worked for many years on strategy, doctrine, technology and economic issues. In parallel, Yoni was managing partner of PwC Consulting in Israel and established a start-up company. He is currently a Research Affiliate at the MIT Security Studies Program and affiliate faculty member at the Schar School at George Mason University. He lives in Tel-Aviv.
