Robert Greenstein, Poverty and the U.S. Safety Net Over the Past Half-Century and Where to Go from Here

Robert Greenstein founded and led the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities for 40 years, focusing on federal fiscal policy and programs for people with low and moderate incomes. He is now a Visiting Fellow at the Brookings Institution’s Hamilton Project. He previously served as Administrator of the Food and Nutrition Service at the US Department of Agriculture under President Carter, where he oversaw federal food assistance programs and helped design the Food Stamp Act of 1977. He also served on a bipartisan federal commission and led the budget team for President Obama’s transition. A MacArthur Fellow, Greenstein has received numerous national awards for his policy work. He is a graduate of Harvard College.

Reservations are required to attend in-person lectures. This lecture will be held in the Spring Valley Building, 4801 Massachusetts Ave. NW, in Room A on the First Floor. You must have an OLLI account to register. If you do not have one, you can create an account when going to register. Each registrant may reserve up to two seats. Your name must be on the list of registrants to enter the lecture and you must be in your seat five minutes before the lecture starts to guarantee your seat.
