960: Performing Shakespeare: Analysis to Acting

This introductory course will explore some of the approaches to text analysis and historical context that professional actors use to approach Shakespeare in preparation for performance. The first half of the course will primarily focus upon text analysis, basic acting principles, and Elizabethan theatre, while the second half will involve applying the analysis to Shakespeare's text, with the option of performing for the class.

Brian MacDonald is a professional actor and teacher, with a BFA and MFA in theatre. He has performed in numerous local productions as well as on Broadway, Off-Broadway, the Kennedy Center, and the Shakespeare Theatre. He is currently a lecturer at the Catholic University of America, and continues to act professionally in the DMV area.
