9101: Contemporary Issues: Is the Past Prologue?
February 10-13
11:45 AM -
1:15 PM
In-Person
This course will feature authors and TED Talk speakers with distinctive views on contemporary issues which have their roots in history. Political populism has been with us since the days of Andrew Jackson. Are we seeing a resurgence of voters favoring populist candidates? We will then jump to foreign affairs and explore the question: Can America and China escape Thucydides Trap? We will discuss the interrelationship between globalization, automation, and immigration. Finally, we will ask ourselves: is the younger generation worse off than previous generations and, if so, what can we do about this? During our interactive sessions, we will view videos and look at data that will help us better understand the issues.
