9402: A User's Guide to Heart and Brain Health

The four-day course will cover structural anatomy and function of the heart and brain. Material will review common diseases of each organ, with emphasis on current methods of evaluating these illnesses. The course will present current recommendations on preventive care. Illnesses such as coronary artery disease and dementia will be among topics discussed.

William Leahy

William Leahy is a graduate of Princeton, Northwestern University Medical School. He served in Army during Vietnam (retired Major). He was at NIH in neurochemistry for two years, then at Johns Hopkins Medical Institution, Department of Neurology for residency (Chief Resident). He was part-time faculty at JHU while in private practice of neurology for 38 years. He created the High School Home Health Foundation, training students for certification as CNA (certified nursing assistants) and has been involved in workforce development. He was a member of Board of Ingleside Corporation, completing three terms in 2023.

Fred Lough

Fred Lough graduated from the US Military Academy, received his MD from GW University, and did his Cardiovascular surgery residency at Walter Reed. He was Director of Cardiac Surgery at GW. He now serves as Director of Medical Ethics for the DOD. He has participated in over 18,000 open heart operations.
