9607: *CANCELLED* The Man Who Came to Dinner

February 3-7
11:45 AM - 1:15 PM
Hybrid  and Online

Kaufman and Hart have saved us a slice of Christmas Past in their delightful tale of a most unwelcome guest. The Man Who Came to Dinner opened on Broadway in 1939, its movie in 1942, and continues to play somewhere because we all need all the laughs we can get. We will be reading the play aloud, enjoying excerpts from recorded performances and deepening our understanding and appreciation of this quintessentially American tour de farce. Monty Woolley, Nathan Lane, Bette Davis, Lucille Ball, and Carol Burnett, among others, join the fun. Study group members will be expected to stay awake, share in the reading, contribute to the discussions, and vote on which production to play full length.

Class Type: Appreciation

Class Format: Hybrid

Hours of Reading: Less than 1 hour/session

Study Group Leader(s):

Carol Light

Carol Light is a mostly retired attorney enjoying leading and taking OLLI study groups for several years. She was bit by the theatre bug in second grade and hasn't been able to shake it despite years in treatment. While Shakespeare in Performance is her passion, for a time like this, she could not resist Kaufman and Hart's classic. Carol has also led a study group on Radio Plays and has organized and directed two staged readings at OLLI: Wilder's Skin of Our Teeth and an adaption of Ten Angry Men
