9130: Anxious About Our Country, the World? Let's Discuss It

This course will explore four major themes: the path the United States is currently on, global political and social trends, the accelerating challenges of climate change, and the strengths and vulnerabilities of US institutions. The Study Group Leader anticipates a robust discussion about the current political divide but will strive to maintain a nonpartisan tone throughout.

Joe Oppenheimer

Joe Oppenheimer is Professor Emeritus of Government and Politics at the University of Maryland. He has taught PhD courses in politics, economics, philosophy, and public affairs at the University of Maryland and the University of Texas. He has consistently won major teaching awards at both. He has taught courses on social justice, statistics, non-market economics, climate change, experimental methods, game theory, etc. Since retiring he has taught courses on short plays and play writing at OLLI and run writers' groups in the DC VA hospital and the Progress Place homeless center. He is also a published playwright, fiction writer, and poet.
