9540: Three-Dimensional Collage: A Book Arts Workshop

February 2, 4, and 6
9:45 AM - 11:15 AM
In-Person

Dive into the world of sculptural collage by transforming your two-dimensional artwork into tactile, three-dimensional book forms. This hands-on workshop is designed for those eager to move beyond the flat page and explore the structural possibilities of paper and simple bookbinding techniques. You will learn how to select and prepare your collage materials to thrive in a book format, focusing on movement, texture, and unexpected presentation. Projects include a miniature accordion book, the "Flag book" created by NYC book artist and editor of Purgatory Pie Press Esther K. Smith, the "Starburst book", and if time permits, the "Turkish Map Fold book". By the end of this course, you will have a portfolio of unique, hand-bound books and the skills necessary to continue integrating book arts into your creative practice. This course has a $20 materials fee, to be paid to the SGL. Please bring a check to the first class session, made out to Leah Lauffer-Rubin.
