923: Shall I Stay or Shall I Go? Comparing Aging in Place vs. Retirement Communities

Deciding where and how to live out your later years is one of the most important decisions you and your family will face. On Day 1, Steve Gurney will cover the full spectrum of senior living options available when remaining at home is no longer the best fit — covering active adult communities, independent living, assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing. On Day 2, Louis Tenenbaum will review how to prepare for staying in your home and the steps needed to modify your home to age in place safely. On Day 3, Victor Rezmovic will describe his journey from leaving a large suburban house to moving to a retirement community. We'll cover key considerations such as financial realities, lifestyle and socialization. This study group has a high class size capacity.

Steve Gurney is a nationally recognized leader, innovator, and advocate in the field of aging and longevity with over 35 years of experience. He founded the Positive Aging SourceBook in 1990 as a comprehensive resource guide for senior living, assisted living, home care, and aging-in-place options. Students will receive a copy of the source book.

Victor Rezmovic, PhD, has taught technology courses at OLLI since 2017. After recently exploring retirement living options in the DC area, he now shares insights from his experience and offers guidance on evaluating the many choices available throughout the DMV.
