641: Beyond Barsetshire: Trollope, Irish, European & Political Novelist

Wednesday
1:00 - 2:50
Starting October 01
Temple Baptist Church

Anthony Trollope is one of the greatest nineteenth-century novelists with whom (oddly) the majority of readers come into contact on their own -- that is, without first having been assigned to read a novel by him in school.  His books have survived, but they have been misunderstood and their variety not known.  He wrote passionate romances about ethnic conflict, colonialism, and radical political realism. The goal of this course will be to get outside Barsetshire and enjoy the relevant mostly unknown Trollope. I ask that everyone have read his Anglo-Irish An Eye for An Eye before the course begins.
