Art Deco Tours

MONDAY, JUNE 16th

CAFRITZ HOUSE/FIELD SCHOOL

1:30 PM

This tour will begin at 1:30 pm on Monday, June 16th. The tour will be led by Julia Gaylord, the Assistant Head of the Field School. As you will recall, Julia also conducted an impressive virtual tour of the Cafritz House in our class.  This tour will enable you to see portions of the House and grounds that we were unable to show during the class.  Conrad Cafritz, who was raised in the Cafritz House, will also be attending if he is in town at that time. 

The Field School is located at 2301 Foxhall Road NW, just south of the Kreeger Museum.  Free parking will be available at the school.  The entrance to the Cafritz House, where we will meet for the tour, is at the top of the hill on which the school is located. To get the parking level simply follow the driveway through the lower parking lot and then up the hill.  Julia will reserve parking spaces at the top and then continuing down the hill for our use.  There are two Handicapped spaces available at the Cafritz House level and another as you come down the hill.  Given when it was built, the Cafritz House is not ADA compliant, and there will be several relatively short sets of stairs to navigate.

 KENNEDY-WARREN  APARTMENTS

3:00 PM

This tour will begin approximately 3 pm--about 30 minutes after the conclusion of Cafritz House/Field School tour. This tour will be led by Linda Greensfelder, an OLLI member, who is a docent and resident at the Kennedy-Warren. The Kennedy-Warren is located at 3133 Connecticut Ave NW, just north of the National Zoo and just south of the Klingle Bridge.  Parking may be available on the street, but, if not, there is a parking garage at the south end of the building or at the Zoo garage next door. Both garages charge for parking.
