970: Tyranny in Germany: 1933 to 1942

July 16 and 18
1:45 PM - 3:15 PM
Online

Most of Jeffrey Metzger’s paternal family fled Nuremberg, Germany, in 1938. At the invitation of that city, Jeff recently described his family’s experiences before and under Nazi rule to some 100 undergraduates at Kesten College in Nuremberg. Jeff will again make this presentation to OLLI. Jeff’s presentation will touch upon his family’s (1) distinguished history in Nuremberg going back to 1850, (2) life in the 1930s under the Nazis, (3) experience during Kristallnacht in 1938, and (4) flight from Germany to the United States. Jeff’s review, in part, derives from several primary sources, including an unusual collection of letters written by family members who remained in Germany. This study group has a high class size capacity.
